Consett Park and Burnopfield met at Veiw Lane, Stanley, on Saturday in the final game for the Shimeld Bowl, and Consett lost by the narrowest of margins.
Both sides had had their name on this Bowl, Burnopfield once, and Consett Park twice, so a keen game was anticipated.
As the final score showed, a very keen game was witnessed by a large crowd of interested Bowlers from every club in North West Durham.
At five ends Burnopfield led by one shot, whilst at ten ends Consett were two shots in front. At fifteen ends Burnopfield led by 9 shots, the score being Burnopfield 67 shots and Consett 58 shots.
The last six ends proved very keen Consett gaining ground, Burnopfield, however, proved good fighters and their number one rink won the game for them, the final score shewing Burnopfleld 84 shots and Consett 83 shots.
This is the second successive year that this Bowl has been won by one shot; last season Annfield Plain defeated Hamsterley by the same margin.
The Bow! and Medals were handed over to Burnopfield by Mr. J. Parker, chairman of the North West Durham League, and the Consett Club were recipients of a pair of Bowls, all presented by Mr. Shimeld who takes an enthusiastic interest In the welfare of North West Durham.
