Carpet Bowls Finalist

14th April 2024

Congratulations to Wenna Hamilton, who reached the final of the Durham County Carpet Bowls Association Jumbles final.  Wenna was paired with Nathan McMann for the competition. They won their group, then their quarter-final and semi-final games.  The quarter and semi finals were both exciting games, going to an extra end.

The final was also very close, with Wenna and Nathan losing to winners Janice Miller and Bob Usher by a single shot.

Report by John McArdle

Well today has arrived and here I am playing in my first bowls match representing the presidents select team against the chairman's select team sadly we didn't win the chairman's side were victorious with a 65 PTS to 37 PTS win, but as the chairman John Mitchell pointed out it did not mean a thing as the idea was to bring together all the club players and enjoy the day.

Which I did I had a great time and it's an honour to be asked to play for this club, mind you 3 woods in the ditch wasn't quite what I had in mind to start my lawn bowls baptism,a very big thank you to my stand in coach for the day Daphne White who kept me right when I was wrong which was most of the time and I would like to thank all the players and members who I played with today in the various matches and formats I cannot remember all your names but I think you know who you are you were all so very kind and generous in your advice to help me along for which I am eternally grateful I do hope we can forge friendships along the way, thanks John Mitchell and Ann Mitchell and all the players and members of Consett Park Bowling Club it's a day I shall not forget .
