Poems > The Green Sward of Blackhill
A poem dedicated to the lawn bowlers of Consett Park Bowling Club winners of the 2025 Tom Burleigh shield
The Green sward of Blackhill
Upon the green where memories bloom
Beneath consett skies that chase the gloom
The club house stands, a century's grace
A friendly hub, a welcoming place.
Though shields may change and season's turn
The lessons of the game we always learn of rolling woods and measured might.
To chase the jack in fading light.
The sound of bowl's a gentle thud upon the turf a rolling stud.
A test of nerves a steady hand
THE FINEST BOWLERS IN THE LAND..
For old and new, the sports the same.
A friendly challenge a worthy game.
So raise a glass, let spirits soar
TO CONSETT PARK FOREVERMORE!
