The Blaydon Courant dated April 18th 1940 reported on the Club's social evening. The annual whist drive is still popular, and now takes place in Daly's Hall.
Consett Park Bowling Club
The members of the above Club together with their families gathered in full force in Daly's Hall last Tuesday evening, the occasion being the Annual Social Evening — an event which is eagerly anticipated every year.
This year's gathering proved every bit as enjoyable and successful as those of former years, many of the members meeting each other for the first time since the close of last season.
For the Whist Drive there were 28½ tables and at its conclusion Mr. J. Barrow introduced Mr. Ralph Alsop, who graciously presented the handsome prizes to the following successful players.
Ladies: 1—Miss E. Page, 187; 2— Mrs. J. H. Nash 178; 3—Mrs. J. W Lake 173; 4—Mrs, W. Chariton, 172; 5—Mrs O. Coolbear 139.
Gents: 1—Mr. F. Heaviside 179; 2— Mr. J. Hunter 178; 3—Mr. J. Marshall 175; 4—Mr. R. Mullen 170; 5—Mr. J. Walton 140.
On the motion of Mr. Barrow a vote of thanks to Mrs. Alsop was carried with loud acclamation. Dancing was indulged in for the remainder of the evening to music provided by Mr. P. Watson's Band.
The Spot Prizes for the Dance were won by Mr. Ridgeley and Miss M. Nash.
The M.C.'s were: Whist Drive. Messrs. G. S. Bird and E. Wills, Dance Messrs. W. Charlton and H. P Hornsby. The organlsing arrangements were in the capable hands of the Hon. Secretary, Mr. J. W Lake assisted by Mr. E. Wills and members of the Committee whilst the catering arrangements were carried out by Mr. A. R. Hanson of Consett.
